Smyths Toys recollects standard product over fears of ‘asbestos contamination’
The Government has issued an alert about the recall of several small archaeology and excavation kits saying: “The product presents a risk to health as the sand included in the set may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos”
A popular toy has been withdrawn by Smyths Toys due to potential contamination risks in the sand.
The Government has issued the alert stating that the toy retailer has recalled numerous small archaeology and excavation kits. They said: “The product presents a risk to health as the sand included in the set may be contaminated with a small quantity of asbestos. Asbestos is a banned substance because it poses a risk to health even at low levels of exposure.”
The warning added: “The product has been recalled from end users by Smyths Toys. We recommend owners stop using this product immediately and keep it out of the reach of children.”

The retailer has told customers to return the product to your nearest Smyths Toys Superstore for a full refund free of charge.
One reader contacted Teesside Live regarding the alert, saying: “They were pushed around Christmas so there’s a reasonable chance local kids will have gotten them (mine did).”
