Cost of renewing a passport will go up TOMORROW: Here’s how a lot it can now set you again
- Price to renew adult passport will rise by 8% for online applications
The cost to renew your passport will exceed £100 for the first time tomorrow, as HM Passport Office raises its fees.
From Wednesday it will cost £102 to renew an adult passport online, up from £94.50.
This represents an 8 per cent price hike from when it was last upped in 2024.
The Home Office said the new fees will help it ‘to continue to move towards a system that meets its costs through those who use it, reducing reliance on funding from general taxation.’
Online passport renewals for children will rise from £61.50 to £66.50.
It will now cost £115.50 for adults to renew a passport by post using a paper form, up from £107, while the fee for children will rise from £74 to £80.
If you need a passport quickly, the premium one day service will now set you back £239.50, a near 8 per cent increase from £222.
The same fees apply to people renewing their passport, and those getting one for the first time.

The fee for applying for a passport from abroad will rise from £108 to £116.50 for adults and from £70 to £75.50 for children.
Paper applications from overseas will increase from £120.50 to £130 tomorrow for adults and £82.50 to £89 for children.
The Government says it does not make any profit from the cost of passport applications.
Check your passport is valid to swerve extra costs
Tom Vaughan, travel insurance expert at the price comparison website Confused.com, said: ‘With prices of new passport applications rising above £100 for the first time, it’s more important than ever to check when your passport expires.
‘If it’s due for renewal soon, it’s worth factoring in the higher costs now in your travel budget. It’s also important to make sure your passport will be valid for any upcoming trips, as nothing ruins holiday excitement faster than realising too late that your passport isn’t valid.’
He said that only 43 per cent of holidaymakers were aware that passports for EU travel must be issued within 10 years of departure.
Mr Vaughan added: ‘Sorting an emergency passport will now cost £239.50, and that’s before you consider having to take time off work to travel to a passport office, which are often far away for last-minute appointments.
‘For families, it can be even more challenging, as fast track child passports can take up to a week to arrange, assuming you can get an appointment in time.
‘Travel insurance won’t cover the cost of an emergency passport or any missed flights. So with fees increasing tomorrow, it’s worth checking now if yours needs renewing before the new fees come into effect.’
