Brits worry ovens will likely be ‘extinct’ inside a decade as air fryers take over our kitchens

Brits love trendy gadgets in the kitchen and that means the humble old oven could be under threat in less than 10 years

Half of Brits believe ovens could become EXTINCT in the next decade – with most now using their air fryers more. A striking 45% of Brits believe ovens will be consigned to the history books in the next 10 years, with three-quarters (74%) admitting to using their air fryer more than their cooker.

Britain’s obsession with the trendy gadget appears to have peaked, with 64% of Brits admitting that they wouldn’t be able to live without theirs.

Half (50%) say they use their oven fewer than three times a week, with 9% admitting they don’t use their cooker anymore. More than two-fifths (41%) of air fryer-obsessed Brits agree they could continue cooking at home with just the trendy gadget in their kitchen.

Half of foodies (52%) claimed there’s ‘nothing’ they wouldn’t use their air fryer for, with hard-boiled eggs (13%), cake (9%) and even cups of tea (4%) being whipped up in there.

Three-quarters (76%) of people believe some foods simply taste better when cooked in an air fryer, with chips (69%), sausages (56%) and roast potatoes (49%) claiming the top spots.

When it comes to the reason that Brits opt for the air fryer, more than half (53%) say that speed is a top factor, while 61% agree that convenience is the biggest pull.

Nearly half (49%) say their air fryer costs less to power, while 40% see it as a healthier option to cook in. The love for the gadgets goes beyond the home, as 65% admit that they’d eat food in a restaurant that had prepared their food in an air fryer.

To celebrate the love affair between Brits and their air fryers, Aldi has introduced a limited-edition Air Fryer plushie – a nod to its popularity down the supermarket’s famous middle aisle. Aldi’s Air Fryer Plushie transforms the countertop hero into a cosy bedtime companion, complete with screen details, a mini basket handle and squishy sides.

Julie Ashfield, Chief Commercial Officer at Aldi UK, said: “A kitchen wouldn’t be complete without an air fryer. Our research shows the air fryer is more than a gadget – it’s a staple in Brits’ homes that deserves to be celebrated.
