Ex-cop who used brothel providing ‘horny Brazilians’ whereas on responsibility had a foolish excuse

Former Metropolitan Police officer Imran Patel was found guilty of gross misconduct after calling a brothel advertising ‘sexy Brazilians’ and using sex workers while on duty

A former police officer who visited a brothel advertising “sexy Brazilians” while on duty committed gross misconduct, a hearing has been told.

In 2022, ex-Metropolitan Police officer Imran Patel was found to have dialled a phone number connected to adverts for a brothel which were promoting “sexy” and “2 x beautiful Brazilians”. Shortly afterwards, officers attended a flat to carry out welfare checks, where Mr Patel utilised sex workers for approximately 13 minutes.

He insisted he only ever contacted numbers “for the purposes of receiving a massage”, which the misconduct hearing described as “utterly implausible”. A police misconduct hearing stated his behaviour would “outrage members of the public” and that to seek out and use such services would have an “immense detrimental effect on the public’s perception of, and confidence in, the police”.

The hearing also learned that in 2021, Mr Patel committed fraud by stealing around £1,500 during the stop and search of a vehicle.

It was alleged that when the money was subsequently returned, it was £800 short.

The panel described his behaviour as “an abuse of position” and said it would “undermine public trust”.

Mr Patel was also found to have retained a stab vest at his flat which was issued to him when he was previously employed with Leicestershire Police, and that he “failed, without any lawful reason and/or reasonable excuse”, to return the vest.

The misconduct hearing stated Mr Patel had demonstrated no insight, reflection or remorse, and that he would have been dismissed for gross misconduct. Had he not stepped down from the force, which he did in 2024.

Meanwhile, a police officer who was “so intoxicated that he could not walk straight” after consuming wine whilst on duty would have faced dismissal had he not departed the force, a misconduct panel has determined.

Former detective constable Sean Brierley visited Gravity Well Taproom on the evening of July 2, 2025 after being informed a suspect at Leyton police station was not yet ready to be questioned.

In video evidence from the east London establishment, the Metropolitan Police officer can be observed purchasing three glasses of white wine across two hours, according to the panel’s verdict.

CCTV revealed Mr Brierley “unsteady on his feet”, “staggering” and “off balance” when he returned to the police station later that evening, the panel heard on February 12.

A custody sergeant provided testimony that Mr Brierley had “smelt drunk” and other personnel reported his speech had been “slurred”, the ruling stated.

Outlining her conclusions, panel chair Commander Katie Lilburn wrote: “The fact that the former officer was so intoxicated that he could not walk straight meant that he was unfit to deal with a prisoner in custody, which was the purpose of him being at the police station.”
