Major UK retailer with 40 shops throughout nation prone to closing at finish of April

Fashion retailer Quiz could close all 40 of its UK stores by the end of April if no rescue deal is reached, following its collapse into administration in another possible blow to the high street

All 40 Quiz stores could be shuttered by the end of April following the chain’s plunge into administration, it has emerged.

If a rescue deal can’t be brokered, the brand’s administrator Interpath will undertake a comprehensive review of all shops’ viability by month-end, as reported by Retail Week, potentially leading to closures. It is understood that Quiz will continue trading until at least the end of April.

The chain enlisted Interpath in February after a difficult trading period, resulting in 109 job losses across Quiz’s Glasgow head office and its distribution centre in Bellshill, Lanarkshire. Interpath confirmed that prices were further reduced over Easter, with additional stock lines introduced and all items marked down by 40% to 70%.

In February, McAlinden stated the retailer planned to keep operating for as long as feasible. He said: “With Quiz the latest retailer to fall into administration, there’s no doubt it’s been a tough start to 2026 for the UK high street.

“It’s our intention to continue to trade all stores and the concessions in Ireland as a going concern for as long as we can while we assess options for the business.”

Interpath noted that in the 12 months leading up to the collapse, the business had faced “challenging trading conditions”, with sales falling short of expectations during the crucial Christmas trading period, both online and in-store, reports the Express.

It said Quiz also had to grapple with tough economic challenges including shifting consumer behaviour, cost pressures from business rates and the recent rises to employment expenses.

The directors worked to examine options to secure Quiz’s future, including attempts to obtain funding, but without discovering a workable solution, they put Quiz into administration.

Following their appointment, all 40 stores and seven concessions carried on trading, but the company’s online shop shut down. Quiz’s concessions in New Look and Matalan stores remained unaffected.
