Kamala Harris confirms whether or not she’s contemplating operating for President once more
She was asked about her plans for the future by TV host Rev Al Sharpton at a civil rights convention – and she gave her firmest answer yet
Kamala Harris says she’s “thinking about” running for President again, she has confirmed today.
She was asked about her plans for the future by TV host Rev Al Sharpton at a civil rights convention.
“I might,” she said. “I’m thinking about it. But let me also say this. I served for four years being a heartbeat away from the PResidency of the United States. I spent countless hours in my West Wing office footsteps away from the Oval Office. I spent countless hours in the Oval Office and the Situation Room.
“I know what the job is. And I knwo what it requires. I also know – one of the things I’ve been doing is travelling the country in the last year, and the one thing I’m really clear about is the status quo is not working and hasn’t been working for a lot of people for a long time.”
It’s her strongest indication yet that she’s planning to stand to be the Democrat candidate in the 2028 Presidential election. She lost the election in 2024 to Donald Trump, after replacing former President Joe Biden on the ticket late in the campaign.
While she’s still considered an outsider to win in 2028 by bookmakers, she continues to poll the highest out of any Democrat candidate in most national polls – beating her next nearest rival, California Governor Gavin Newsom by more than seven points in an average of polls.
She first indicated a third run for the Oval Office was a possibility in an interview with the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg last year, saying: “”I am not done. I have lived my entire career as a life of service and it’s in my bones.”
