Grand National jockey rushed to hospital as well being updates made on fallen horses

Grand National jockey Robbie Dunne has been taken to hospital after a heavy fall in the Aintree showpiece race.

Dunne suffered a ‘nasty fall’ during Saturday’s race on Stellar Story. ITV Racing announced that the jockey is conscious and talking before being taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, horses Top Of The Bill and Quai De Bourbon were assessed by vets following the race. Top Of The Bill was assessed on track before being walked back to the stables, while Quai De Bourbon is being assessed in the stables after walking into a horse ambulance.

It was later announced by ITV Ed Chamberlain that Mr Vango is also being assessed in the stables.

The race was won by the favourite I Am Maximus at 9/2. Ridden by Paul Townend for trainer Willie Mullins and owner JP McManus, I Am Maximus becomes only the second horse ever after the legendary Red Rum to reclaim the race.

I Am Maximus powered through the field to line, passing 28/1 leader Jordans, who came home third behind fellow JP McManus horse, 18/1 shot Iroko.

Speaking after victory, Townend said: “He’s tough isn’t he? “He still didn’t travel with the enthusiasm of the first year but the cheekpieces helped in the middle of the race.

“He’s a really, really good horse, that’s why. He wasn’t telling me not to ride him. He’s so good. He’s got such an engine and will gallop to the end of the world for you.”
