Woman, 19, dies after being attacked by canine at property in Essex as man arrested

A man has been arrested after a 19-year-old woman died after being attacked by a dog at a property in Essex. She was declared dead at the scene, confirmed police

A man has been taken into custody following the death of a 19-year-old woman who was mauled by a dog at a property in Essex.

The 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death, following the incident in Dunmow on Friday. Essex Police were called to a property in Leaden Roding at 10.45pm on Friday where they discovered the woman with severe injuries.

She was declared dead at the scene. The dog believed to have attacked the woman has been seized, the force confirmed. The man, from the Dunmow area, remains in police custody.

Essex Police Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper said: “I know this incident will be a shock to the local community. My thoughts, and those of us all at Essex Police, are with the loved ones of the woman who died yesterday.

“We will have officers in the area throughout today so please come and speak to them if you have any information or have any concerns. Experienced detectives are leading the investigation to understand exactly what has happened.”

Meanwhile, a teenager has been brought before the court accused of murdering a 14-year-old lad who was fatally shot in south-east London.

Eghosa Ogbebor met his tragic end on Lord Warwick Street, Woolwich. The police were summoned to the scene around 3.40pm on April 2 following reports of gunfire.

On Saturday, a 16-year-old lad from Romford, east London, was presented at Thames Magistrates’ Court where he was sent to youth detention accommodation ahead of his next appearance at the Old Bailey on Tuesday. The teenager, whose identity is protected by law, was arrested on April 4 and subsequently released on bail, according to the police.

He was taken into custody again on April 9 and charged with murder the next day, stated the Metropolitan Police.

On April 4, officers apprehended a 16-year-old lad and a 19-year-old man in Woolwich on suspicion of murder, along with a 46-year-old man suspected of aiding an offender. All three were granted bail, confirmed the police.

A 14-year-old lad, 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old man were arrested on April 3 in relation to Eghosa’s death and have been bailed while investigations proceed.

On April 10, another 16-year-old boy was also taken into custody on suspicion of murder. He remains behind bars.

Eghosa’s family are receiving support from specialist officers and the investigation is still underway, the police announced on Friday.
