Man who murdered personal granny over fruit dispute tries to flee by leaping out of courtroom window
A granny killer, who slayed his 76-year-old grandmother over a row about stolen fruit, made a daring courtroom escape after being found guilty of the brutal murder
A grim trial took a truly absurd turn when a bloke found guilty of murdering his own grandmother tried to flee the courtroom by climbing out of a window.
The bloke made the daring escape from the Munich courtroom after being sentenced to life in prison for the killing by Judge Elisabeth Ehrl. Jonathan B, 24, had reportedly turned on his gran when the 76-year-old accused him of stealing fruit and tried to boot him out of her apartment, according to German news site BILD.
Polina B told her grandson ,”You come and steal. I want nothing more to do with you”, the court heard.
Jonathan had apparently been relying on his grandmother for money and accommodation for years, with the 76-year-old physicist even paying for his time spent living abroad.
After years of what he saw as humiliation, the freeloading bloke looked for revenge, planning to kill his grandmother before stealing €90,000 in cash from a bank safe deposit box in her name, according to reports.
The would-be killer was described in court as brutally strangling his grandmother at her apartment in March 2025, before attempting to stage the death as a suicide by cutting her wrists with a pairing knife and placing her body in the bath.
The body was discovered by a cleaner the next morning. In a desperate attempt to cover his tracks, he sent a series of texts from her mobile. But the police were not fooled.
The grim grandson was arrested by police the following day in a Munich hotel. He was discovered with cash and gold worth approximately €35,000.
The granny slayer confessed to the crime through his lawyers during the trial, stating “I regret it every day; if I could, I would undo it.” Jonathan B was found guilty of the killing, and decided to make a run for it when told by the judge that he would spend his life behind bars.
According to a reporter who was inside the courtroom, the murderer managed to open one of the windows that led outside the courtroom, as was halfway out when he was eventually apprehended by a bailiff.
The killer’s mother reportedly screamed during the attempted escape, moments after judge Elisabeth Ehrl said her son would spend his remaining days in the clink.
