Record breaking rockers Kasabian goal England World Cup tune and congratulate Oasis on award
EXCLUSIVE Kasabian are banging on the door of the FA to record a World Cup anthem for England but fear it would never be as good as two past anthems
Rockers Kasabian have begged the FA to allow them to record England’s World Cup song.
So far there’s no FA-sanctioned England team song yet, although unofficial anthems We’ve Had Enough of ’66 and Three Lions Roar have emerged, while Ant & Dec are threatening to revive We’re On The Ball. Kasabian mainman Serge Pizzorno, who also has Italian heritage, told the Daily Star: “I’d love to do it, we’ve never been asked.
“It’s difficult because Three Lions is the most amazing song but I would never rule it out, and the New Order one is pretty spectacular – it’s a high bar. I wouldn’t rule it out.”
The band have a close affiliation with Leicester City Football Club, but love all football and will be helping Scotland fans get in the mood for the World Cup this summer too.
Serge explained: “we are playing TRNSMT festival when Scotland are playing. The match starts at 11′ O Clock we leave the stage at 10.45pm so we are doing the lead up to that, that’s going to be special.”
Maybe the lads should cover Belle & Sebastian’s new World Cup song, It Only Takes One Lion to get the local crowd on side.
Kasabian play Finsbury Park on July 4 in London, which happens to coincide with a World Cup Quarter Final too.
The band were also delighted to hear that his pals Oasis are finally to be inducted into America’s Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame later this year.
Serge, who has toured with both Gallaghers over the years, said: “Of course, it made sense if there was a year they were ever to make it after the tour that they did. It was meant to be.”
Maybe Kasabian can get inducted next year?
“I would love that,” smiled Serge. “Maybe a lot of Americans wouldn’t have it, but you never know.”
The band are gearing up to the release of new album ACT III, is scheduled for release on July 17, and could lands them an eighth consecutive No1 album.
Serge said: “When you’re making a record it’s pretty mad and stressful, now we can relax.
“The last six years of our lives have felt pretty wild, we’ve sort of been on a bit of a journey so that’s where the title comes from. In this section of our career, it’s the third act from the last couple of albums that we made. It feels like it’s goig to go off.”
Kasabian play Finsbury Park on July 4. Other summer gigs include TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow on June 20, Fairview Park in Dublin (June 16), and Leeds Festival on August 27.
New tunes Hippie Sunshine and Great Pretender are out now.
