A shooting in Las Vegas, USA, is being investigated after a woman was reportedly shot in the leg. Additionally, a gunman is said to have barricaded himself inside a nearby hotel, prompting a major armed response near The STRAT Hotel, Casino & Tower and Atomic Golf.
Eyewitnesses and traffic cameras show a heavy police and SWAT presence, with multiple agencies on scene. Road closures in the area have also been observed.
SWAT deployment has been observed in Las Vegas as various observers have shared on social media that there was multiple armoured tactical vehicles. These vehicles were reportedly alongside units said to include Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers, Nevada Highway Patrol and Henderson Police, moving into the area with lights and sirens.
A Facebook user shared: “Something’s going on three SWAT tanks Henderson Police Highway Patrol Las Vegas Police all heading down Las Vegas Boulevard towards downtown lights and Sirens are blaring. Update this just in the Stratosphere Casino is surrounded Las Vegas Boulevard closed around that area.” Meanwhile, a local news reporter posted on X: “I am hearing reports that multiple people have been shot at the stratosphere casino in Las Vegas.
“The entire area is shut down by Police.” Journalist Doug Roberts informed that major police response was under way in Las Vegas, with traffic cameras showing at least six different law-enforcement agencies at the scene as officers and SWAT units secure the area, amid unconfirmed reports of a shooting.
Roberts said: “SWAT on scene. Sources are saying that the shooter is still inside.”
He later claimed a woman had been taken to hospital “with a gunshot wound to the leg”, adding: “Sources are saying that other victims may be stuck inside with gunshot wounds and shooter still inside… everything is unconfirmed.”
According to Roberts, the shooting “happened at atomic golf, and then the shooter ran into the stratosphere where the barricade is occurring”. Scanner traffic has also indicated multiple people may have been reported shot.
The LVMPD has since stated: “LVMPD is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1800 block of South Main Street. One individual was struck and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“The suspect then barricaded in a nearby hotel property. LVMPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were requested and responded.”
