• Kayley Boda, a 22-year-old retail assistant from Manchester, has been given just 18 months to live after being diagnosed with lung cancer at age 21.
• The young woman started vaping at 15 and was getting through one 600-puff disposable device per week when she began coughing up brown substance with “grainy bits” in January 2025. Doctors initially turned her away eight times, dismissing her symptoms as a chest infection.
• After seven biopsies and surgery to remove the lower lobe of her right lung, Kayley was given the all clear in February 2026. However just two months later doctors discovered the cancer had returned to the pleural lining of her lungs.
• “When I got the all clear it felt amazing, but just two months later I was told the cancer had come back, and I have 18 months to live,” Kayley said. “No words can describe how I feel, I’m 22, this isn’t meant to happen to somebody my age.”
• Kayley believes her cancer is linked to switching from reusable to disposable vapes, as her symptoms began shortly after making the change. She has now stopped vaping and is urging others to do the same.
• “Stay off the vapes, because they will catch up with you,” she warned. Kayley is now raising £20,000 for experimental treatment in Germany to help prolong her life.
