Aussie terrified by skin-crawling discovery in her underwear: ‘I assumed it was chicken poo’

A woman has recalled the skin-crawling moment she discovered a spider’s nest hidden in her underwear after feeling a strange movement.

Emily Newton was preparing to take a walk with her daughter last week when she changed into freshly washed clothes she had taken off the line the day before.

The Brisbane mother said she felt a weird sensation and inspected her underwear when she went to the toilet.

‘I looked at the crotch part of my underwear and was like, “No way, it has bird poo on it” because it looked like it had a shiny cover on it,’ she said.

‘I yelled out to my husband and was like, “Oh my god, there’s bird poo on the crotch part of my underwear. Am I going to get a disease or something?”‘

However, on closer inspection, she said the spot began moving.

‘It turned out to be a spider and it was in a pouch full of eggs,’ Ms Newton said.

‘It was all wriggling and moving around, and the spider’s legs started coming out.

‘That was the movement I felt down there when I thought maybe I needed to go to the toilet.’

Ms Newton told Daily Mail the spider’s nest appeared to be a ‘flat white mesh with a strange yellow colour off to the side of it’.

‘The spider’s legs were brown and it was in the mesh along with the eggs,’ she said.

She said she screamed, jumped off the toilet and pegged her jocks down the hallway before ‘sprinting into the shower and washing every single opening in my body’.

Ms Newton said her husband eventually disposed of the underwear and the spider.

‘My husband flicked the spider and the nest into the garden and chucked the underwear in the bin,’ she said.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Ms Newton had a warning for everyone taking their clothes off the line.

‘If you’re bringing your washing in off the line, check it,’ she said.

‘I always shake everything out, but I just didn’t check this one tiny little patch.’

This wasn’t a rare occurrence, with many Aussies saying something similar had happened to them after Ms Newton shared her experience on TikTok

‘The same thing happened to me the other day, but I just saw it before I pulled up my underwear,’ one said.

‘I had the same thought process too and thought it was bird poo. I wish it was bird poo.’

‘Honestly, the amount of times I’ve brought in washing and sheets from the line and they have spiders in them, I started using my dryer a lot more,’ a second said.

‘It happened to me but it was with a cloth nappy liner,’ a third said.

‘I was about to put it on my daughter and thought, “Oh, what’s that dark circle”. I turned it over and was a spider with babies attached.’
