Man Utd information: £72m star given switch approval as Michael Carrick suggested on transfer
Manchester United look set for a return to the Champions League, with interim manager Michael Carrick and Old Trafford chiefs planning for the summer
Manchester United remain on track for a Premier League top-four finish and Champions League qualification next season.
The Red Devils claimed three points with a 1-0 triumph over Chelsea at the weekend, with Matheus Cunha netting before the interval to seal the away success, following brilliant play and yet another assist from captain Bruno Fernandes.
United have five fixtures remaining in the domestic campaign, with three at Old Trafford, providing them with a solid foundation to conclude the year positively. Up next is a Monday night clash against Brentford, allowing for more than a week’s recovery time to help injured stars re-join the squad. Here’s all the latest news from Old Trafford as the end of the season and summer transfer window looms near.

Carrick urged to recall £72m loanee
Michael Carrick has been urged to reintegrate Rasmus Hojlund into the squad following his successful loan stint at Napoli, reports the Mirror.
The young Danish forward, who was snapped up in 2023 for £72million from Atalanta, has been turning heads in Serie A this season after flopping at Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old has contributed to 19 goals this year, and Napoli are obliged to purchase him for a fee of roughly £38m should they secure Champions League qualification. However, Ryan Giggs is insistent United should afford Hojlund another opportunity.
When quizzed on whether he’d like any of the loanees to return on a permanent basis, the former United star said on Rio Ferdinand Presents: “Maybe Hojlund, maybe. I thought he was unlucky; he was just the only centre forward at the club.
“Everyone expected him to come in and do great. I think Sesko gets more chances and scores more goals. But you never know, if you’ve got two young, hungry centre forwards up front and say fight it out.
“You see, at United, that’s always been a strength. I say training is harder than the games, if you’ve United centre halves at one end marking Sesko, it’s going to be competitive.”
Evra surprised by United star’s form
Patrice Evra has expressed surprise at the impressive form of Matheus Cunha for United. The Brazilian international proved the hero on Saturday night, with his lone goal proving decisive at Stamford Bridge.
Cunha has scored only eight times but registered 12 goal contributions including assists this campaign and has established himself as a fan favourite at Old Trafford through his celebrations and devotion to the cause.
During a stint on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel, the former United defender confessed he was impressed by Cunha’s inventive impact within the squad.
Evra said: “[Cunha] I’m really surprised by the way [he has done]. Remember, I talked with you, Rio, before he signed, and you said what you think is that he creates chance as well. Actually, he creates so many chances now.”
Ferdinand has consistently championed the midfielder, revealing back in October 2025 that he reckons Cunha can be “unplayable” when he’s in full flow.
Speaking after United’s win at Anfield, the ex-England international said: “Cunha, I thought, was magnificent. I think as the game went on as well, especially when we needed someone to kind of give us a bit of time and really respite, he was that guy.
“I just think he’s a wonderful footballer. Once he gets into full flow, I think he’s going to be almost unplayable at times.”
