Man Utd obtain surprising Marcus Rashford provide from Barcelona in switch twist

EXCLUSIVE: Barcelona want to keep Marcus Rashford but are preparing to make an outrageous offer to Manchester United knowing the England forward prefers to remain with the Spanish giants

Barcelona are keen to prolong Marcus Rashford’s loan arrangement from Manchester United for a second campaign. And Rashford would rather stay with the Catalan club than make his way back to Old Trafford come summer.

It’s understood Barca have tabled the suggestion to United, who are weighing up whether to sanction another temporary switch. The sides have settled on a £26m transfer fee for Rashford, though Barca have unsuccessfully attempted to drive down the asking price. United have been standing firm on the clause, which stays active until June 15.

Rashford is eager to have his future sorted before linking up with England for the World Cup, assuming he earns a spot in Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

It’s understood both parties will restart discussions once the campaign concludes, unless an agreement can be reached beforehand.

One potential obstacle could be the reality that Rashford’s salary will return to £315,000-a-week should United qualify for the Champions League.

Barca have been covering his wages in their entirety, and United would expect this arrangement to persist if another loan is finalised. It appears probable that Rashford will carry on his career with Barca.

United are eager to slash the club’s salary commitments this summer, with Casemiro and Jadon Sancho poised to depart.

This will trim United’s outgoings by more than £500,000-a-week. And co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is hesitant to welcome Rashford back onto the payroll.

Rashford has been thriving in Barcelona, since making the loan move at the beginning of last season. It’s reported that he’s rekindled his passion for football, rediscovered some of his top form and earned a recall to the England squad.

The 28-year-old has netted 12 goals and supplied 13 assists, helping the Catalan side establish a six-point lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid at the summit of La Liga.
