Our Fashion Editor HANNAH SKELLEY tried on the brand new Gap x Victoria Beckham assortment. Here’s what she’s shopping for
If you’ve let the Gap slip from your shopping roster, you might want to add it back in.
Because today marks the launch of its highly anticipated collaboration with the Spice-Girl-turned-designer Victoria Beckham.
You’re more likely to find her esteemed luxury label at Paris Fashion Week than on the High Street. Although rather than her signature masculine tailoring and slinky evening gowns, this 38-piece collection is centred on refined wardrobe building blocks.
The fashion pack call them ‘basics’, but these sleek elevated staples are anything but.
Mark Breitbard, president and chief executive of Gap says, ‘we wanted to work with Victoria given her iconic influence in the fashion world. But this partnership feels truly authentic – and that’s where the magic happens.’
Magic indeed. Every piece has Beckham’s polished timeless touch. Think perfectly boxy thick white tees, with retro Gap branding on the breast (£30). Subtle barrel leg jeans in deep indigo, white and mid-blue (£85) – when I say I would really like to buy all three, I’m not joking.

Cargo trousers in beige and khaki, but these aren’t just any old utility pants.
These come with deep thigh pockets, as well as subtle hip pockets, a fake waist belt (so no buckle bulge) and a crossover button fastening which does some handy waist cinching (£95).
There’s also a skirt of the same ilk in these neutral colours, too (£85).

I had hung up my jumpsuit-wearing days in favour of separates and co-ords, but VB’s ultra-flattering navy take skims down your torso, nips in at your midriff and has a slight ballon-leg effect through the leg which balances out your top half (£95).
I’m 5 ft 9 in and the length was perfect. Again, magic. We just need more colours please!

But the real heroes are in the outerwear department. The sky-blue technical funnel-neck pullover will fulfil all of your spring jacket needs (£95).
Ditto the slightly heavier khaki parka, which will work at the school gate, in the supermarket, on the side of a football pitch or even at fashion week (£130) – I suspect this one will be gone in a matter of hours.

While the most expensive item is the £250 trench coat – well worth it for the sophisticated shape and elevated cut, it made me feel a million dollars – the funnel-neck beige Philippa iteration from Victoria Beckham’s own line would set you back £1,590.

Brilliantly most items in GAP’s VB line sit between £25 and £100. Not only do all of these pieces have Beckham’s clever design tweaks, but above all else this haute high street collaboration is astounding value.
And they’re worth the investment. My 30-year-old peers and I are already fawning over it – but so is my mum. Each piece feels entirely ageless.
Plus, this is a multi-seasonal partnership, which means more VB high street gems to come soon…
But move fast for the first drop, especially on the outerwear. You don’t Wannabe left out in the cold on this one.
