‘She was residing her life to the total now her dying has left a cataclysmic gap’
Tributes have been paid to 17-year-old Summer who was killed in a horror crash in Sutton Scarsdale – a 19-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving
The parents of an “incredibly loved” teenage girl have paid tribute to her after she was killed in a crash. The incident occurred at around 11pm on Sunday, 19 April, when a Vauxhall Corsa left the carriageway and struck a tree on Sutton Lane in Sutton Scarsdale.
A passenger aged 17, identified by Derbyshire Constabulary only as Summer, died at the scene after sustaining serious injuries. Her mum, Beckie, described her daughter as “an outgoing young girl, full of life, bubbly, very chatty and [who] loved being the centre of attention”.
Part of the tribute, issued on Saturday, 25 April, reads: “She was very motivated and knew where she wanted to go in life.”, reports Derbyshire Live.
It continued: “She loved her three horses and this was a hobby she shared with her mum Beckie. They spent a lot of time together looking after the horses and Summer also loved her dogs.
“She was very family-oriented and adored her little sisters Bonnie and Bella. Summer was an incredibly loved daughter, sister, niece and cousin.
“She was just enjoying living life to the fullest as a 17-year-old.”
Summer had recently begun working at McDonald’s, which thrilled her, and was studying construction at college.
Her favourite aspect of the course was carpentry and she intended to eventually join her step-dad, Julian, in the trade.
Beckie also described her daughter as a “very playful character” who loved getting new piercings and was excited about getting her first tattoo when she turned 18 in October. Summer’s other pastimes included dining out, socialising with her mates and caring for her pets.
Her father, Rob, also honoured her memory, saying Summer’s death had created a “cataclysmic hole” in her family’s life.
He said: “Growing up, Summer loved baking and cooking, making YouTube videos, going to watch Mansfield Town, helping out with household tasks and being mischievous.
“She loved telling random jokes to her granddad George and dad Rob. Her grandad doted on Summer, giving her the name Twinkle, due to her lighting up his day when he spent time with her.
“He would always struggle to say no to her if she needed anything. We are very proud to have Summer as our daughter and granddaughter.
“She was always smiling and lit up every room she entered with her twinkly, chatty personality.
“Summer’s death has left a cataclysmic hole in her whole family’s life and everyone who knew Summer.”
Two additional passengers sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries, and were rushed to hospital after the collision.
A further two people in the vehicle, including the motorist, were taken to hospital, though their injuries were not believed to be serious.
The driver of the car, a 19-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
