‘Curvy icon’ telly presenter sheds 8 stone and turns into bodybuilding champ

Martina Reuter says she lost 8.5stone in 20 months and won double gold at the prestigious IFBB Diamond Cup “without pills or injections”

A telly star dubbed a ‘curvy icon’ has lost 8.5stone and become a two-time bodybuilding champion after a dramatic lifestyle change. Martina Reuter has completed a 20-month transformation which saw her weight fall from 18st 1lb (115kg) to 9st 10lb (62kg).

The Austrian broadcaster, a familiar face on prominent television networks in German-speaking Europe SAT.1 and ORF, took gold in both the Fit Model and Beginner Cup categories at last month’s IFBB Diamond Cup in Klagenfurt, Austria.

The IFBB Diamond Cup is a prestigious series of international bodybuilding and fitness competitions organised by the International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation (IFBB).

Martina insists her new physique comes from hard graft and “old-school” discipline. She said she achieved it “without pills or injections”

Her results have been put down to a strict eating plan and training five times a week with professional coaches, Need to Know reported. Martina said: “I wanted to see what was possible with my body at 46.”

But the change came with a cost. After years as a leading name in the “curvy” modelling space and a regular on fashion segments promoting plus-size style, she reportedly lost several well-paid contracts linked to her former size. Even so, Martina says she has no regrets.

“I feel more energetic and healthier than I did in my 20s,” she said after her win. The Fit Model division rewards definition and stage presence rather than extreme bulk.

Martina’s success has quickly turned her into a point of inspiration for women in her age group. Organisers of the IFBB Austria Diamond Cup also said her appearance has helped bring wider attention to the sport, as she looks to juggle TV work with a growing profile as a fitness star.

Meanwhile in the UK, a Scottish woman who has lost more than half her body weight has recently been celebrating an inspiring transformation powered by simple lifestyle changes.

Karen Heffernan, from Glasgow, decided it was time for a fresh start after what she describes as “a bit of a health scare and a difficult conversation with a surgeon”.

Instead of restrictive dieting or counting every calorie, Karen embraced a fitness app that helped her make small, manageable changes step by step, the Daily Star previously reported.

Over 18 months, those changes added up to an incredible 14½ stone (94kg) loss, more than half of her starting weight of 26½ stone.
