Inside King Charles and Donald Trump’s ‘backyard occasion’ as Monarch’s haunting stare caught on digicam

King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in the US ahead of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations, for what could be one of Charles’ biggest challenges of his reign . . . although they had a lovely lavish Garden Party first. US-UK relations hit an all-time low after an alleged report appeared to hint Washington DC would review London’s claim to the Falkland Islands.

The leaked Pentagon memo appeared designed to spark a reaction in the UK after Prime Minister Keir Starmer refused to fully commit to his war in Iran. Fortunately for Charles, Trump is a well-known fan of the Royal family and could give him an easier ride compared to the Prime Minister.

The tour started off with King Charles and Queen Camilla mingling with guests at the British Embassy in Washington DC on overnight. Plenty of treats were on offer, including sandwiches and scones, that were aimed at getting guests into a good mood – it was, if you will, a Buckingham Palace-style garden party but Americanised.

The royals were seen speaking with House Speaker Mike Johnson as well as with representatives of domestic violence organisations. Other attendees at the party included White House advisor Stephen Miller and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.

Trump was also there with Melania, which saw some very awkward photos being taken, as well as solo images of King Charles staring directly down the camera lens in one of the most haunting images of the Monarch we’ve ever seen.

During the event, Queen Camilla was seen surrounded by several US military recruits (and a random old bloke with an obvious eye condition).

The guests had a rather lavish meal at the event, as revealed by Head Chef at the British Embassy Craig Harnden.

He said: “We’ll be doing four types of sandwiches, so Scottish smoked salmon we’re using and we’ll just do a very simple lemon butter, black pepper, brown bread, done.

“We’re also doing a roast beef and horseradish sandwich and not normally traditionally involved in the afternoon tea flavour, however, we do have the first imports of British beef, which I’m more than happy to use for this special occasion, bend the rules a little bit.

“Egg mayonnaise is a classic, just nicely boiled eggs, a little bit of mayonnaise, black pepper and salt. And then a cucumber sandwich is one of the simplest ones. Now we do make it a little bit more interesting by pickling the cucumbers slightly so the sweetness and acidity into the sandwich makes it a little bit more interesting.

“And traditionally scones, so we’ll bake the scone about an hour and a half before service so nice fresh and warm. Clotted cream, strawberry jam and a nice strawberry on top, done.”

The King is set to address Congress later today, with speculation running rife about what subjects the royal will touch on as the US approaches its 250th birthday. Charles is expected to express his solidarity between the US and UK and mention the friendship that Brits have toward the people of the US.

The speech is set to last about 20 minutes and he will speak about the two nations’ shared history as well as their differences. Charles is expected to conclude his speech by outlining the “reconciliation and renewal” that has since given rise to “one of the greatest alliances in human history.”
