Police looking for needed man Peter Schmichael who has ‘slipped by means of the web’
A suspect with the same name as Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel is being hunted by cops over an alleged theft. Dale Peter Schmichael Waterworth, 32, is wanted by Cheshire Police, who said he has links to Manchester.
But their appeal to find him has fallen foul of online wags who quipped he doesn’t want to face the penalty. One quipped: “His Mrs is standing by him. She said he’s a keeper.” “Another joked: “Is he in goal or is he in gaol?”
A third said: “Bet he’s in safe hands somewhere.” Another asked: “Was the ‘theft offence’ robbing someone’s name?” Someone else commented: “He slipped through the net.”
A force spokesman said: “Police are appealing for information to trace a wanted man from Warrington. Dale Peter Schmichael Waterworth is wanted in relation to a theft offence.
“The 32-year-old is described as 5′ 10” tall, with brown hair and blue eyes, and has links to Warrington and Manchester.
“Anyone with any information as to his whereabouts should contact Cheshire Police on 101 or visit our website quoting 26000176283.”
One joker commented: “The police have warned that if he doesn’t hand himself in the penalties will be serious, the gloves will come off, the net will close in on him and it won’t be long until he is cornered.”
And another wag said: “Police have definitely dropped the ball on this one!”
Someone else joked: “I haven’t seen him… but I Petr Cech I’ve locked the doors!” Another said: “Fancy being called after Chesney’s dog in Coronation Street.”
As well as his name, which is spelt slightly differently from the legendary Danish goalie, online wags also noticed his likeness to legendary Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan. One said: “MacGowan is aging badly.”
Someone else said: “Only here for the comments. You don’t disappoint as always.”
Legendary keeper Schmeichel played 292 times for Manchester United in the 90s and won the treble with the Red Devils in 1999 before stints at Sporting Lisbon, Aston Villa and Manchester City.
He was capped 129 times for Denmark, with whom he won Euro 92.
