Trump takes swipe at Germany and makes chilling ‘world held hostage’ nuclear weapon declare
US President Donald Trump has hit back at German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, saying he doesn’t know what he is “talking about” after Merz criticised US Iran nuclear talks
Donald Trump has fired back at Friedrich Merz after the German Chancellor criticised the US President and voiced concerns over Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
On Monday, Germany’s leader accused Iran of “humiliating” the United States by dragging US envoys to Pakistan for fruitless peace talks. Merz, while addressing students in Marsberg, commented that the Iranians were “obviously very skilled at negotiating, or rather, very skilled at not negotiating, letting the Americans travel to Islamabad and then leave again without any result”.
He added: “An entire nation is being humiliated by the Iranian leadership, especially by these so-called Revolutionary Guards. And so I hope that this ends as quickly as possible,” Merz and Trump had previously met at the White House in March.
Trump has now hit back on social media, accusing Merz of ignorance regarding Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump stated: “The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, thinks it’s OK for Iran to have a Nuclear Weapon. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about! If Iran had a Nuclear Weapon, the whole World would be held hostage.
“I am doing something with Iran, right now, that other Nations, or Presidents, should have done long ago. No wonder Germany is doing so poorly, both Economically, and otherwise! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Merz has permitted the US to utilise the Ramstein air base for coordinating strikes on Iran, but expressed doubt over Trump’s ability to extricate himself from the conflict.
“If I had known that it would continue like this for five or six weeks and get progressively worse, I would have told him even more emphatically,” Merz stated.
This revelation follows a leaked memo suggesting the US is considering measures to penalise NATO allies who have not fully backed the war.
