World Cup set to impose wild new purple card guidelines after Champions League ruling
There will reportedly be some new red card rules at the upcoming World Cup, set to be hosted in North America, after a landmark ruling in the Champions League
Footballers who cover their mouths during an on-pitch row will now be sent off according to rules set to be implemented at the World Cup.
The rule change comes after Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr accused Benfica’s Gianluca Prestianni of racially abusing him during a Champions League clash back in February, where the Argentine covered his mouth with his shirt while talking to the Brazilian.
Prestianni denied making a racist comment and said Vinicius misheard him. Aurelien Tchouameni said that Prestianni told him he had directed a homophobic comment towards the forward. He has since been slapped with a six-game suspension for his actions.

According to The Times, Gianni Infantino will announce the changes at the FIFA’s congress in Vancouver on Thursday (30 April).
However, it will only be enforced at the World Cup, because it would have to be passed by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to be part of the rules in competitions such as the Premier League.
Another change at the World Cup comes after the scenes at the AFCON final, when Senegal left the pitch and refused to play on after they were left livid at refereeing decisions.
After several minutes, Senegal returned to finish their final with Morocco – eventually emerging as the winners following a whirlwind final.
However, The Confederation of African Football (CAF) appeal board later overturned the result of January’s final – awarding the result to Morocco. Senegal are now challenging that in Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Similar scenes at the World Cup will now also be classed as a red card. Infantino has been adamant that rules need to be changed after the controversy.
But some are concerned about the new rules, according to the report, such as a player leaving the pitch after being racially abused will now be classed as a red card.
