Nigel Farage claims ‘outright arson try’ as residence was firebombed
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has claimed his home was firebombed and that he received a £5million ‘gift’ from a billionaire to fund his security due to the ‘huge dangers’ of his job
Nigel Farage has disclosed that his home was firebombed as he highlighted the “huge dangers” associated with his role.
The Reform UK leader claimed a petrol bomb was posted through his letterbox last year, with no suspects yet identified.
Farage stated that Thailand-based billionaire Christopher Harborne has donated money – rumoured to be around £5million – to cover his security costs before the “outright arson attempt” on his home.
Speaking to The Telegraph, he shared that he wasn’t at home when the attack occurred early last year.
He said: “It was an outright arson attempt. I wasn’t at home at the time, but when I came back and opened the door I found the damage.” He believes the culprits were interrupted during the act.
Farage, who had milkshakes and a rock hurled at him during the General Election campaign in 2024, mentioned he also previously had to scrap a car after protestors targeted it, reports the Mirror.
He added: “There is also the online threat, with people encouraging the use of violence against me, which we have reported to the police several times with no response that I can discern whatsoever and the pretty much point-blank refusal of the British state to help me.”
The Reform leader told the newspaper that he was speaking publicly about it because information about his private finances had been compromised.
He said Mr Harborne agreed to underwrite his security expenses in early 2024, before he decided to run as an MP.
The gift, which is not subject to tax, was not declared as it did not qualify as a political donation, according to The Telegraph.
He said: “Sometimes things happen when there are cameras there, but there are plenty of times when things don’t make the news, like pints of beer being thrown over me or the attack on my home.”
Farage stated that the money from Mr Harbone was given to him to ensure his safety and security for the rest of his life.
He claimed to have attempted and failed to secure funding for his security from the Home Office.
The billionaire was accompanying Farage when he had a milkshake hurled at him while campaigning in Newcastle in 2019.
