UK instructor despatched intercourse tape to ‘girl’ – however fact made him attempt to take his personal life

Muaawiya Ameen was jailed for 15 months after blackmailing a Derby teacher with an explicit video, leading to the victim losing his job and attempting to take his own life

A young man from Derby posed as a woman online, tricked a city teacher into sending a sexually explicit video, and then used it to extort him.

Derby Crown Court was told how the victim filmed the clip in the disabled toilets at the school where he worked. After doing so, he forwarded it to the online profile he thought belonged to a woman, but it was actually 21-year-old Muaawiya Ameen.

The defendant, from Allenton, then demanded £1,000 from the man, who agreed to pay him £400, which he transferred. But despite receiving the money, Ameen still distributed the file to students at the victim’s workplace, resulting in his dismissal and nearly leading him to take his own life, reports Derbyshire Live.

Sentencing him to 15 months in prison, Judge Shaun Smith KC said: “The fact of the matter was this was wicked behaviour and led to a man losing his job.

“He went through all of the worries about his privacy, reputation and personal safety. Even when the money was paid you still sent it out with all of the students looking at it.

“He was finished in his job but worst of all, on the very night it was published, he tried to take his own life. Thankfully someone called him by chance and he says that saved his life. You know what you were doing and you achieved it.”

James Sinclair, prosecuting, said: “He [the teacher] began a conversation over Instagram with a profile he believed was a female and quickly the conversation turned sexual.

“Images were shared between them and he sent one of him (carrying out a sexual act) which he recorded in the disabled toilets of the establishment where he worked.

“They arranged to video call each other but that never happened and the defendant then demanded £1,000 or he would distribute it to his manager.

“They agreed on a fee of £400 which the victim paid via PayPal and then reported the matter to the police the same day. The video was then distributed to students at the establishment from where he was later dismissed.”

The now former teacher submitted a victim impact statement to the court in which he explained how he considered suicide, lost his employment and has now endured enormous emotional distress due to the entire ordeal.

Ameen, of Hubert Shaw Close, admitted blackmail and has no prior convictions whatsoever. Joseph Chivayo, in mitigation, said his client behaved incorrectly under influence from individuals he believed were his genuine mates as he attempted to belong.

He said: “He fully accepts his actions were wrong and he is responsible. He works part-time on a family business and there is a reference from his employer which speaks of his hard work.

“He has the support of his family and his father sits in court today. This has been a learning experience for him.” All blackmail victims receive lifelong anonymity.
