Horror at vacation hotspot as ‘aggressive’ 8ft shark assaults seashore swimmer
An 8ft shark has severely injured a 38-year-old swimmer at a US holiday hotspot, sparking urgent beach closures amid a terrifying spike in local attacks
A holiday paradise was plunged into terror after a swimmer was brutally mauled by an “aggressive” eight-foot shark. The 38-year-old victim was left with horrific injuries following the early-morning ambush at a popular US beach hotspot.
He had been in the waters near Cromwell’s Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Saturday when the predator struck. The nightmare unfolded around 6.30am local time. Despite suffering serious wounds, the desperate swimmer managed to fight his way back to the sand at the Kaikoo-area beach.
A shocked bystander immediately scrambled to dial 911, sparking a massive emergency response. Paramedics rushed to the scene to perform emergency first aid right on the beach before rushing the unidentified man to the hospital.
An EMS spokesperson confirmed the severity of the attack, saying the victim “suffered serious injuries to his lower extremities.”
Medical staff have since been fighting to treat his wounds, though officials have not yet provided an update on his current condition.
In the wake of the bloodbath, Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguards confirmed that the ocean beast was still lurking nearby.
Experts “confirmed the presence of an aggressive shark near the swim area and surf break,” estimating the creature to be between six and eight feet long. Beachgoers have been ordered to stay away from the shoreline as red flags go up.
The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department said: “Warning signs have been posted and ocean users are strongly advised to stay out of the water in the affected area until further notice.”
The horrifying incident is just the latest in a string of shark scares to rock the tropical paradise.
Barely an hour after the Cromwell’s Beach attack, panic spread to Magic Island, where lifeguards issued fresh warnings after spotting “two aggressive eight-foot sharks” lurking in the Ala Moana Bowls surf break.
The double-scare comes just days after a terrified couple were forced to fight for their lives against a monstrous 12-foot tiger shark while kayaking off Olowalu in Maui.
Recalling their brush with death, the traumatised pair explained how the ocean beast clamped its massive jaws onto their kayak and began violently thrashing, only backing off after they repeatedly bashed it until it swam away.
