Michael Smith announced a heartbreaking loss and confirmed he will skip an upcoming tournament and be at home to ‘take care’ of his family

Michael Smith announced the heartbreaking death of his dog after a tragic ‘race to the vets’ as the darts star confirms he will miss upcoming tournament.

Former world champion Smith, 35, took to Instagram to share the devastating news that the family’s dog fell ill at home and sadly died whilst on the way to the vets.

Smith posted a collection of pictures of his beloved husky playing and added the emotional caption: “What a whirlwind last 2 hours. Our girl come in to the living room taken one look at us all and then laying down and taking a turn. Racing to the vets she sadly passed and left us .

“We’re all going to miss you Luna. We’re absolutely heartbroken. But now you can be back in that field in the sky with your man orca. Run free girl.”

‘Bully Boy’ later explained in a post on his Instagram story that he will skip the upcoming Players Championship 19 in Milton Keynes on June 2 and PC 20 the following day.

He wrote: “As you can see by my post we’re all heartbroken over our girl. So I didn’t even have to think about it long that I won’t be playing in MK this week as I’ll be staying home and taking care of my family.”
