The Princess of Wales is expected to join the King and Queen at a reception tonight marking 125 years of Cancer Research UK, Kensington Palace has announced
Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Princess of Wales will accompany the King and Queen at a reception commemorating 125 years of Cancer Research UK. Catherine is set to join the royal pair at this evening’s event, taking place at St James’s Palace, in honour of the charity’s contributions.
The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester are also expected to attend the reception. The milestone event, presided over by The King as Patron of Cancer Research UK, aims to spotlight the charity’s impact and highlight the efforts of researchers, clinicians, volunteers, and partners involved in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Catherine was diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer at the beginning of 2024, following significant abdominal surgery.
She underwent six months of chemotherapy, and in January 2025, she announced her remission. Since then, the princess has returned to full-time royal duties, and last month embarked on her first foreign trip post-diagnosis.
The King was diagnosed with cancer around the same time and continues to undergo treatment for the condition, reports the Express.
This evening’s reception will feature immersive installations that showcase the charity’s work, including its past achievements, current projects, and future innovations.
The King and Queen will explore visual displays demonstrating how technological advancements are revolutionising cancer research.
Cancer Research UK has played a pivotal role in transforming our understanding of cancer, as well as its prevention, detection, and treatment.
This advancement has helped double cancer survival rates in the UK over the past 50 years and today 8 in 10 people who receive cancer drugs in the UK receive a drug developed by or with Cancer Research UK.
