Harry Maguire’s new role
Despite missing out on England’s World Cup squad and hitting out at manager Thomas Tuchel, defender Harry Maguire is still set to enjoy his summer.
The veteran Manchester United centre-back is slated to feature on The Rest is Football podcast during the tournament.
The 33-year-old was left out of Tuchel’s 26-man squad, marking the second consecutive international tournament he’s missed after injury sidelined him from Euro 2024.
He posted on social media about being “shocked and gutted”, while his mum ranted that she was “absolutely disgusted” and his brother moaned: “This might possibly be the worst decision I’ve ever seen in my life. No words.”
It is the second consecutive tournament that Maguire will not be a part of, having also missed out on selection to the 2024 Euros due to injury.
Maguire is set to be one of many guests featuring on the popular podcast hosted by Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards, according to The Athletic.
The former England stars will be broadcasting from a studio with views over New York’s Times Square for 40 episodes, reports the Mirror.
United ‘in touch’ over next transfer
United could follow up their £38.8million swoop for Atalanta midfielder Ederson with the capture of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have agreed on the overall package for the Brazilian, 26, who may soon be welcoming the Hammers star as his new colleague.
An ESPN report suggests United have already reached out to the relegated club regarding a potential deal for the 21-year-old.
West Ham might instigate several player sales, with relegation expected to cost the club £100m. According to The Times, they’ve slapped an £80m price tag on Fernandes.
Arsenal have also been linked with a move for the Portuguese international, who made a strong impression in his debut season at the London Stadium.
