Ex-footballer Yrondu Musavu-King, 34, lifeless after ‘discovered lifeless within the streets’

Tributes and condolences have been paid to former Gabonese international Yrondu Musavu-King, who was reportedly found dead in the streets of his home nation aged 34

A former footballer who spent his career playing in France has sadly passed away in mysterious circumstances after his body was reportedly found “lifeless” in the streets of Gabon.

Yrondu Musavu-King, who was a Gabonese international, tragically died today (June 5), according to publications in his home nation and France, as his former clubs have paid tribute.

Musavu-King, who retired from football in 2022, played for clubs across Europe but was more known to club’s in France. His death comes just a week after French football was in shock over the passing of Toulouse’s Bryan Bergougnoux.

According to information from French publication La Dépêche, Musavu-King’s body was “found lifeless behind a house in Libreville, Gabon, in circumstances that are still unclear”.

There has been no further information about his tragic passing but his former clubs. Musavu-King gained 12 caps with the Gabon national team and competed at the African Cup of Nations.

He played for several clubs in France, including Toulouse FC, FC Lorient, SM Caen, and Le Mans FC. Musavu-King also played outside of France with spells at Granada FC in Spain, Udinese in Italy and St. Gallen in Switzerland.

He would end his career playing for his first club outside of Europe by signing for Bengaluru FC in 2021 for a single season.

SM Caen, who Musavu-King began his professional and youth career with, wrote about the “terrible ordeal” on social media.

In a statement, the French side said: “It is with sadness that we learned of the passing of Yrondu King. Aged 34 and a product of the SM Caen youth academy, he made his professional debut with the club. SM Caen’s thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this terrible ordeal.”

Le Mans FC said it was saddened to learn of the news. The club wrote on X: “LE MANS FC is saddened to learn tonight of the passing of its former central defender Yrondu Musavu-King, at just 34 years old.

“Yrondu had joined us in 2019, in Ligue 2, and had played 11 league matches in ‘blood and gold’.”

Other French clubs in Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 have also expressed “sincere condolence” to Musavu-King’s family while tagging his former club SM Caen on social club.

His former club Udinese, who play in Italy’s Serie A, also expressed their condolences to his loved ones. In a statement, they said: “Udinese Calcio expresses its condolences for the passing of Yrondu Musavu-King.

“The defender, after starting his career in France, played for Udinese between 2016 and 2018. The club extends its condolences to his loved ones at this difficult time.”
