Lancashire Police have provided an update on the condition of the 17-year-old girl who was stabbed in broad daylight in Brierfield as a man has been arrested

The condition of the 17-year-old girl who was stabbed in the neck during an attack in broad daylight has been given a positive update by police.

The girl was allegedly attacked by a 30-year-old man in the middle of a street in Brierfield, Lanchashire. The man has since been charged with attempted murder. Lancashire Police were called to Wood Street at 3:06pm on Friday (June 12) after receiving reports that a teenager had been injured.

Armed police arrived at the scene and arrested a 30-year-old man at the scene. A cordon was put in place with photos showing a large police presence in the area, reports Lancashire Live.

In an update issued this afternoon (June 14), Lancashire Police confirmed Junaid Nawaz – who is British born of Pakistani heritage – has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

The 30-year-old, of Livingstone Walk, Brierfield, has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court on Monday morning (June 15).

In a statement, a Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “A man has been charged after a teenage girl was stabbed in the neck in Brierfield. Lancashire Police officers were called at 3.06pm on Friday to Wood Street, Brierfield, and found that a 17-year-old had been stabbed in the back of the neck.

“She was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully her injuries were not life-threatening and she has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

“A 30-year-old man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody.

“Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Junaid Nawaz, 30, of Livingstone Walk, Brierfield – who is British born of Pakistani heritage – has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

“He has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.”
