A young woman from Blackburn tragically died from severe burns after reportedly “setting herself on fire”, a court was told.
Shawgar Rasul Hama passed away at Wythenshawe Hospital in Greater Manchester on May 23 this year. The 22-year-old had been rushed to the hospital, which boasts a specialist burns unit, following her severe injuries.
An inquest into Miss Hama’s death was opened and subsequently adjourned at Preston Coroners’ Court on Thursday, 11 June.
The court was informed that Miss Hama was born in Iraq in 2003.
Area Coroner Kate Bisset stated during the brief hearing: “This lady died as a consequence of burns having set herself on fire.”
The court was told that Miss Hama’s identity was confirmed using her hospital wristband by PC Liz Davies.
Her usual residence was in Greenhurst Close in Blackburn, reports Lancs Live.
A final inquest is scheduled for October 2 at Accrington Town Hall, where Ms Bisset will preside.
