Liverpool information: Man Utd block £40m switch as Reds suggested to bid for ‘excellent’ star

Liverpool are being heavily linked with transfers this summer window, as Andoni Iraola looks to rebuild the Reds following a dismal season last year under Arne Slot

The World Cup may be in full swing, but the summer transfer season is also heating up for Liverpool.

It’s difficult to go a few hours presently without spotting a player the Reds are being connected with in action throughout the USA, Mexico and Canada. The summer window is merely three days old, yet that hasn’t stopped Liverpool from being rumoured to hold interest in the likes of Yan Diomande, Morocco’s Ayyoub Bouaddi, Germany’s Nico Schlotterbeck and France’s Bradley Barcola.

Nevertheless, it’s speculation of a Premier League comeback for Darwin Nunez that has truly captivated, and today’s developments see the Uruguayan’s views on the Reds re-emerge. Meanwhile, Manchester United have outlined conditions for a potentially sensational transfer. Here’s all the latest news from Anfield.

Nunez’s views on Liverpool

Speculation of Nunez returning to the Reds has been widespread in recent days following reports close to the Uruguayan World Cup camp suggesting he is set to sign for Liverpool once more this summer, reports the Mirror.

While those reports have been dismissed, with The Athletic stating any rumours of the striker re-joining the club are off target, Nunez’s opinions on his former club have surfaced again.

The forward moved to Al-Hilal from Liverpool last summer. Nevertheless, he was dropped from the squad after the arrival of Karim Benzema in January, though recent remarks reveal he still holds his former club dear to his heart.

Speaking to AUFTV in March, he said: “Yes, I’d be lying if I said no, that I don’t miss them,” he said. “The truth is they made me feel very good and my family too.

“In difficult moments that I went through personally, the people always gave me that affection, that support and that was very important to me. Obviously I miss Liverpool, I miss them a lot.”

Nunez’s World Cup got off to a disappointing start with Uruguay as the 26-year-old forward was substituted at half-time of the 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia.

Man Utd block transfer

Man Utd are said to have prevented Liverpool and Manchester City from launching a bid for Marcus Rashford this summer.

The Athletic have reported the striker is available for £40m due to a clause in his contract, but that clause does not apply to the Reds or City, United’s two biggest rivals.

Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona, where he helped the club secure the La Liga title, netting 14 goals and registering 10 assists. However, the Spanish giants have opted not to make his switch permanent and the 28-year-old is set to return to Old Trafford.

Clubs such as Arsenal and Bayern Munich have been linked with Rashford. Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James believes the Reds should test the waters for the boyhood United fan with an audacious offer.

“If I were Liverpool, I’d look to sign Marcus Rashford. I really would,” James told BetVictor. “Whether he plays on the left or the right isn’t the main issue. Get him in first, and then you give it time to work out his best position. I think he’s an outstanding footballer. His football intelligence is off the scale, and so is his ability.”
