Two kids hospitalised after being hit by a automobile exterior Stoke-on-Trent main college
Two children have been taken to hospital after being struck by a car outside a primary school in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, this morning, as an air ambulance was called to the scene
A boy and a girl have been rushed to hospital after being hit by a car outside a primary school in Stoke-on-Trent. Police, three ambulances, and the air ambulance were all dispatched to Chell Heath this morning (June 24) where the girl is reported to have sustained ‘serious injuries’.
The road outside Burnwood Primary Academy was cordoned off with police tape erected on and around the pedestrian crossing.
West Midlands Ambulance Service has now stated that the boy suffered ‘potentially serious injuries’, while the girl was ‘stabilised’ at the scene before both were transported to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.
Staffordshire Police has confirmed that the driver of the involved car, a white Toyota, remained at the scene as an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The alarm was raised at 8.30am with the air ambulance also landing on the fields between the school and Canterbury Drive.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said the crew was called to reports of a car having struck two children while they were crossing the road.
She said: “Crews arrived to find a girl and a boy who had been injured in a collision with a car. The girl sustained serious injuries and received trauma care from the team of ambulance staff. Once stabilised, the girl was conveyed by land ambulance on blue lights and sirens to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
The boy sustained potentially serious injuries and was treated on scene before being taken to the same hospital for further checks. The driver of the car, a woman, was assessed but declined hospital treatment.”
Police have launched an appeal for witnesses, reports Stoke on Trent Live.
A spokesperson for the force said: “We are appealing for information following a collision involving a car and two pedestrians in Stoke-on-Trent. We were called to Chell Heath Road following reports of a collision involving a white Toyota and two children who were on foot.
“Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance Service. Both children received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening at this time.
“The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and is assisting with our enquiries.”
Witnesses should call 101 and quote incident 232 of June 24.
