Chris Brown’s housekeeper wins damages after canine ripped off ‘massive chunks of her pores and skin’
A jury orders Chris Brown to pays millions for negligence after his housekeeper Maria Avila was attacked by his security dog while emptying his bins leaving her with facial disfigurement and limited mobility
R&B star Chris Brown has been found liable for millions in damages after his housekeeper was mauled and disfigured by one of his dogs.
Maria Avila said she was attacked by a 90kg Caucasian shepherd named Hades, owned by Brown, while she was emptying the bins at his house in Tarzana, California in 2020.
Speaking in Spanish the woman said the singer’s dog ripped off “large chunks of her skin” leaving her with facial disfigurement, limited mobility, scarring, vision loss and nerve damage.
An LA jury found in favour of Avila and now Brown, along with his company Black Pyramid LLC, must pay her $12.9m (£9.7m) for negligence.
Instead of calling the emergency services, Brown reportedly fled the scene after being “freaked out” by the blood, fearing a “media circus” if his voice was heard on a 911 call.
The American hitmaker said he heard the dog growling while he was upstairs and then found Avila lying motionless: “The blood kind of freaked me out”.
He claimed that he was “in shock” reports Billboard and followed his manager’s advice to leave the scene, leaving staff to attend to the housekeeper.
Brown, who previously dated Rihanna, admitted some culpability before the trial but disputed the extent of Avila’s injuries arguing that he had warned her of that the dogs were “not friendly” and used for security purposes only.
Avila denied the discussion took place and that a language barrier made such conversation unlikely.
Brown, who is currently on tour in the US with Usher, is also due to face trial in the UK later this year over an alleged nightclub attack on a music producer with a bottle in 2023.
The Daily Star has contacted Chris Brown’s representatives for a comment.
