Ex-England star threatened in stands by FURIOUS Mexico fan making cut throat gesture at him

Ex-England star David Bentley was threatened by furious Mexico fans who made “throat slit” gestures after he taunted them during the Three Lions victory at the Azteca.

A bandana-clad Bentley, 41, was seen firing back rude hand gestures as things got heated in the stands during the epic last 16 clash on a night of high drama. The former Tottenham winger had earlier quipped: “We might not get out of here alive.”

He had shared a number of videos from high up in the stands of the iconic stadium. Wearing a blue retro-style England shirt, he appeared to be close the front of the section of away fans, who were vastly outnumbered by Mexicans.

And the hosts were unhappy with the England fans taunting them throughout the game as the Three Lions took an early 2-0 lead. Things got even more heated when Mexico pulled a goal back and a thin line of police separating the rival fans struggle to keep them apart.

After Jarrell Quansah was shown a red card, a number of Mexican fans were seen calling Bentley out directly. One bespectacled fan flipped him the bird before running his finger under his throat in a sinister manner.

Another wild-eyed fan beckoned Bentley down towards him before also making a throat cutting gesture. Bentley responded by calling the bloke a w****r. He wrote on Instagram: “Red Card! Getting tasty now!”

Rangers legend Ally McCoist wrote: “My money was on the big yin eating you rather than slittin yer throat… ps the big yin with the Gregory’s, looks like he couldn’t fight sleep.” Another fan wrote: “Bentley’s always been a wind up.”

Bentley had the last laugh after England secured safe passage to the quarter-finals with a dramatic victory, inspired by a defensive rearguard display that including six clearances from sub Dan Burn, who only came on in the 75th minute.

The former Blackburn star later shared a number of clips to social media of himself dancing with a troop of Three Lions supporters. The set of fans marched through the concourse of the Azteca with a trumpet and drums.
