Arthur Fery backed by galaxy of stars to make Wimbledon historical past

Fery, 23, has not only won over the hearts of the nation but has celebrities backing him in his title tilt

A galaxy of stars are supporting Britain’s Arthur Fery as he bids to make Wimbledon history and reach the final on his birthday.

Fery, 23, has not only won over the hearts of the nation but has celebrities backing him in his title tilt.

He has to face world No.3 and French Open champion Alexander Zverev, 29, in tomorrow’s semi-final on Centre Court.

The Wimbledon wildcard will rocket up the rankings after the tournament ends in SW19 from 114th in the world to world No. 36.

Cinderella star Lily James, 37, who was among the guests in the Royal Box, said she was backing Fery and said he was “so incredible.”

She said: “It’s just, so exciting to see how well he’s doing and just, the games were so tense. Dimitrov was incredible too and then yesterday (Wednesday) was just wild.

“It’s so exciting. I love (Wimbledon) so much. I’m so excited to be here with my mum. I came here a few years ago with my grandmother and so it’s such a special occasion and so, so, so beloved.”

Olympic rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave, 64, who won five gold medals during his career, said he was backing Fery along with the Three Lions for football success.

He said: “I’ve competed for Britain most of my life, so anybody competing for Great Britain or the home country has my support, so yes, very much supporting England, and Fery’s been doing extremely well and playing a lot above what was expected, so it’s great to see him and wish him the best of luck.”

If the Fery-tale continues and the 23-year-old wins the Challenge Cup on Sunday, he is in line to collect £3,600,000 in prize money.

By reaching the semi-final he pockets £900,000.

Stanford graduate Fery has earned £650,000 during his career on the ATP Tour after making his Wimbledon debut in 2023.

He is expected to land lucrative corporate deals that will earn him millions, with experts predicting he could bank between £3.5m and £6.6m.

Dame Kelly Holmes said she was backing the British ace, who was brought up in Wimbledon, on SW19’s famous grass courts.

She said: “When there’s any British players you’ve got to get behind them here. I mean this is the iconic venue, you always want to get behind the British players and I just hope they just keep going and going and going.”
