Man Utd information: Red Devils ‘land enormous switch windfall’ as Ederson replace emerges

Manchester United are facing uncertainty over the Ederson transfer from Atalanta, while the club could reportedly pocket more than £13m from Mason Greenwood’s sell-on clause if he completes a move from Marseille

The summer transfer window has proved to be a crushing letdown for Manchester United so far. Having surpassed all predictions and secured a third-place Premier League finish, hopes heading into this summer were sky-high.

Andrey Santos will join from Chelsea in a £50million deal, though the acquisition feels rather disappointing considering the array of top-class midfielders United had been tipped to pursue earlier in the window.

United lost out on priority targets Elliot Anderson and Mateus Fernandes to Premier League competitors, with the club now potentially facing another transfer setback. However, Ineos bosses are still anticipated to splash cash on several signings.

Reports on Friday night sent shockwaves through the Manchester United fanbase as it emerged that Ederson’s transfer from Atalanta had stalled, reports the Mirror.

The Red Devils had arranged a deal worth just over £38million and reached personal terms with the Brazil international before the World Cup kicked off. The 27-year-old even suggested while Brazil remained in the tournament that the switch was virtually sealed.

Nevertheless, multiple sources claimed on Friday evening that an underlying knee problem scuppered the transfer following Ederson’s medical examination in the UK, with the deal reportedly collapsing.

By contrast, the Manchester Evening News reports the club do not regard the move as dead. United sources allegedly refuted claims the transfer had fallen through, with the internal belief being that suggesting it had collapsed was designed to ramp up pressure to finalise the deal.

£13m Greenwood windfall

United could pocket more than £13m should Mason Greenwood secure a move away from Marseille in the coming days. According to ESPN, Fenerbahce and Atletico Madrid have both struck agreements with the French outfit for the forward’s services.

Greenwood departed United to join Marseille in July 2024 for a fee of £26.6m. That agreement included a sell-on clause, which is poised to be activated should the 24 year old successfully complete his switch to either of the interested clubs.

United would pocket a substantial windfall of €14m (£11.9m) should he choose to relocate to Turkey, or €15.7m (£13.3m) if he heads back to Madrid, having previously spent time on loan at Getafe.

That would bolster their transfer war chest before what promises to be a hectic summer window.
