An Argentine restaurant has left football fans around the world enraged after giving customers voodoo dolls dressed in opposition kits to stab as they eat.

And having already done the likes of France and Spain pre-tournament, the Bullanga Milanga restaurant in Cordoba, Argentina will no doubt leave Three Lions supporters fuming after revealing an England version of the effigy.

In a post on social media, the footie-mad restaurant described the shocking toy as being “designed to jinx” the England national team ahead of their Wednesday (15 July) clash with Argentina, adding “Let’s puncture [them] so they don’t puncture our dreams”.

They continued: “No country has won two World Cups in a row for 64 years. The chances of becoming back-to-back champions are almost impossible.

“That’s why we’re going to need to play games too…” The eyebrow raising toy comes with the restaurant’s McCumba meal, which is named after a Spanish word used to describe various Afro-South American religions.

In a video posted by the restaurant, diners can be seen stabbing the England voodoo doll with cocktail sticks, before inflicting the same fate on similar models wearing Brazil, Spain and France tops. The voodoo dolls have split opinion online, with some users revelling in the rivalry while others have not seen the funny side.

One user on Instagram described the stunt as “Among the best I’ve seen in marketing” adding that the restaurant had understood the rivalry between England and Argentina “perfectly”. Another wrote that they were left feeling a real sense of pride seeing the dolls, saying: “I love my country and our culture, it makes me very happy to be Argentinian”.

Not everyone was so amused, with one user saying that the likes of Messi and co. are good enough to win without “needing any tricks”. Another user wrote: “Argentina doesn’t need this garbage to win, bad propaganda, they’ve totally screwed up.”

The voodoo doll give away is not the first stunt pulled by the restaurant. Ahead of Argentina’s Round of 16 clash with Egypt, they offered fans a free meal if they handed football stickers with Egypt players on.
