Man strangled his ex-girlfriend to demise within the bathtub and lived together with her corpse for months

An ex-boyfriend has been found guilty of the murder of his former girlfriend after he strangled her in the bath and lived with her body for months trying to hide his crimes

A murderer has been jailed for life after her strangled his his ex-girlfriend to death and lived with her corpse for months while slowly dismembering it.

Matthew Lewinski, 42, killed Courtney “Jerri” Winters, 52, and left her body in a bath tub in 2020. He eventually moved her to the basement, where he removed parts of her body in a bid to conceal and dispose of it.

The horror only came to light when Lewinski was found walking around his block of flats in his underwear and taken to hospital. When his family entered his apartment, they discovered the victim’s remains in the basement.

He was this week sentenced after being found guilty of premeditated murder, disinterment and mutilation of a dead body and concealing the death of an individual at a a five-day trial in Mount Clemens, Michigan, US.

Jurors were told the couple, who had already split up, got into a row when Courtney went to Lewinski’s house and told him she’d had an abortion, local media reports. It is understood slaps were exchanged and Courtney bit Lewinski, who strangled her.

After police found Courtney’s body, they approached Lewinski who made a confession from his hospital bed. Courtney was never reported missing between her death and the discovery of her body, local media reports.

During Lewinski’s sentencing Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido stated: “This sentence represents the final chapter in a long and difficult pursuit of justice for Jerri Winters and her loved ones.

“I commend the dedication and perseverance of the prosecutors, investigators, and everyone involved who remained committed to holding the defendant accountable.

He added: “While no outcome can erase the pain of losing a loved one, we hope this resolution provides the victim’s family with a sense of closure and peace as they continue to move forward.”
