President Donald Trump has announced plans to deliver a national address tonight, though the White House has not unveiled what the speech will cover.

The announcement came in a brief post on Truth Social that stated: “President Trump will be making a Speech to the Nation on Thursday evening, at 9 P.M. Eastern. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Unlike Trump’s typical Truth Social posts, the message was written in the third person and did not indicate that it had been authored by the president himself. When asked for additional details about the planned remarks, the White House declined to provide any further information, instead directing inquiries to the same Truth Social post, which offered no explanation of the speech’s subject.

It also remains unclear whether Trump will deliver the address from the Oval Office. Since returning to office last year, Trump has given two formal Oval Office addresses.

The first came on September 9, when he discussed his administration’s efforts to restore “law and order” following the stabbing of Ukrainian immigrant Iryna Zarutska, reports Independent. He returned to the Resolute Desk the following day after the fatal shooting of GOP activist and Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on a college campus in Utah.

In addition to those appearances, Trump has delivered two other prime-time speeches during his second term. One focused on his administration’s economic record last December, while another in April provided an update on the conflict with Iran that began under his administration.

Formal Oval Office addresses were comparatively rare during Trump’s first term. He made just three televised speeches from the office between 2017 and 2021.

Among the most memorable was his March 2020 address at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, which drew widespread criticism. Before the broadcast began, Trump was caught on a live microphone reacting to an ink stain on his shirt.

“Ah f***. Uh oh. I got a pen mark,” he said before asking those present if anyone had a wipe or some “white stuff” to hide the stain on his shirt.

During the speech, Trump also mistakenly suggested that all cargo arriving from Europe would be barred from entering the United States for a month. Administration officials later clarified that he had intended to announce restrictions on travel from Europe, not a suspension of freight shipments.
