Man Utd information: Transfer charge ‘agreed’ for third midfield signing as star heads for medical
Manchester United have been busy in the transfer market this week, signing Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, but they are not done yet as they reportedly close in on a £45m signing
After a slow start to the window, Manchester United have secured two midfield talents within a week as Michael Carrick steps up his transfer dealings.
The United boss reportedly wants another new body in the engine-room addition, with the club apparently on the brink of yet another fresh signing after confirming the signing of both Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, as well as backup goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer.
Tielemans has recently returned from World Cup 2026, though there’s one player still competing in the tournament who could be the next player through the door if Carrick gets his way. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest developments around Old Trafford as the summer transformation gathers pace.

Rumours surrounding United’s pursuit of Manu Kone have escalated rapidly following an impressive World Cup display by the Frenchman. So much so that the Premier League giants have reportedly struck a deal to secure the player from Roma.
That’s according to Old Trafford icon Rio Ferdinand, who provided an update on the matter through his official YouTube channel. And Ferdinand claims that his former club has a £45million arrangement in place to bring Kone to England.
The former England defender stated in his latest transfer briefing: “Fabrizio Romano just confirmed that Man Utd have agreed a £45m fee for Kone from Roma, the French international midfielder.”
Romano recently stated in his own update that United have made contact with Kone’s representatives. Nevertheless, he fell short of confirming an agreement between the two clubs.
After Casemiro’s exit and the breakdown of Ederson’s transfer from Atalanta, United are still thought to desire a more defensively-minded midfield specialist. Santos, who has arrived from Chelsea in a £50m deal, can fulfil this role but lacks the same level of experience.
It has also been reported that Aston Villa hold serious interest in Kone, especially following their loss of Tielemans to United. Yet the Red Devils could further antagonise their Birmingham rivals by beating them to Kone’s signature as well.
Gomes departs Wolves for medical
There is activity at Molineux this week amid speculation that Joao Gomes has left Wolves’ training camp for a medical. Nevertheless, it is Villa who are thought to have secured his services.
According to talkSPORT, Villa have struck a £35m agreement to sign the Brazilian. He is reportedly heading for a medical, scheduled to take place on Friday.
That figure matches exactly the fee Villa received for 29-year-old Tielemans. Unai Emery’s side have moved swiftly to reinvest the money, bringing in vital midfield cover after Amadou Onana sustained a serious injury at the World Cup.
Gomes, 25, seemed poised to sign for Atletico Madrid before a fallout with Jorge Mendes, who was orchestrating the deal, led to its breakdown. However, it seems Wolves will secure their desired fee after Villa rapidly ramped up their interest.
