Oasis and World Cup songs storm the official charts
Wonderwall hits No2 on the charts following England’s heroics on the charts and they are joined by three other football related songs
The World Cup has stormed the charts with four football related hits in the Top 5.
Following England’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina on Wednesday, a wave of footie-related anthems surge up this week’s Top 40. Leading the charge is Oasis’s Wonderwall, newly embraced as an unofficial England anthem – much to Noel and Liam Gallagher’s delight – which climbs 9 places to No2.
Sung by players and fans after every England victory during the tournament, the Britpop behemoth matches its original all-time peak, securing its highest Official Singles Chart placing since its release 31 years ago.
Wonderwall still remains the biggest British single never to have reached No1, having shifted an incredible 5.6 million chart units to date, according to Official Charts Company data.
Dutch dance duo ANOTR bag a personal best with Talk To You ft. 54 Ultra, up 10 places to No4. The Song of the Summer contender clinches its new peak after a viral video of England defender John Stones dancing to the track exploded online.
Official FIFA World Cup 2026 single, Dai Dai from Shakira and Burna Boy shifts the goalposts once again, breaking the Top 5 for the very first time (5).
Shakira’s Waka Waka (This Time For Africa), the official World Cup anthem for 2010’s tournament, also shoots up the standings to its highest position since 2010 (26).
Lastly, Badiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds’ ever green Three Lions (Football’s Coming Home) roars back into the Top 10, up 18 places to No 3. 60 years of hurt never stops them dreaming!
Meanwhile it’s a 17th non-consecutive week at the summit for Rein Me In by Sam Fender and Olivia Dean .
It now overtakes Bryan Adams’ long-running No1 (Everything I Do) I Do It For You which notched up 16 consecutive weeks at the Official Singles Chart summit consecutively back in 1991.
The song is now just one week away from equalling record holder Frankie Laine’s 1953 hit I Believe for the most weeks at No1 ever, and two weeks away from potentially stealing the all-time title, more Official Chart history making could be on the horizon very soon!
