Donald Trump was front and centre after the full time whistle of the World Cup final – and he made a “really awkward” moment with the “reluctant” stars

Donald Trump created a “really awkward” moment during the World Cup final – according to a body language expert.

The US President was present at the World Cup final, and he was on duty to hand out medals to both Spanish and Argentine players. However, it was the trophy lift that made headlines with Trump, again, being involved.

Speaking to OLBG, body language expert Darren Stanton, admitted it was an awkward situation: “It’s another example of Donald Trump trying to be number one, thinking he’s the center of attention, that everyone’s there just for him.

“And he just doesn’t take the hint, so obviously he was in the center of shot.

“Gavi and Rodri gestured to Trump ‘thanks for coming, we’ve got to do the shot with the trophy now’, and Trump doesn’t really smell the coffee, so eventually goes off to the right of the shot.

“And then obviously, he’s gestured away, but he doesn’t take the hint, he just stands there like he’s like a third wheel, like a gooseberry, while the rest of the team raise the trophy, so it’s a really awkward moment.

“Then eventually Trump puts his hands in the air, and he sort of admits defeat and walks off, but it’s hilarious, the fact that Trump just doesn’t consciously register the fact that people want to crack on and do stuff.

“He was just oblivious. He was just twisting in the wind on his own!”

Stanton added that both Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal appeared reluctant to interact with him during when accepting their medals: “With Lionel Messi, he doesn’t look like he wants to hang around, does he?

“I think it’s almost like Trump wants to engage him, as he puts the medal around his neck, but then Messi’s body language immediately turns to the right and starts to walk off, and then Trump taps him on the back.

“So there seemed to be a reluctance with Messi to really engage with Trump.

“Likewise with Lamine Yamal, the same thing, he has a much longer handshake with other people, but with Trump it was literally one shake, then he was off.

“He almost didn’t stop, it reminds me of going through a drive-through and not stopping.

“You keep moving and grab what you need, and with Yamal, it didn’t stop with Trump, he just kept moving and Trump put the medal around his neck, one handshake, and he was off.

“Like Messi, it just seemed to be a real, sort of dismissive attitude towards Trump.

“I think overall Trump is there thinking ‘I’m the president, they’re all going to be over the moon’, but people are not really that impressed.”
