‘Hot podium man’ sends TV followers wild as Andy Burnham prepares to enter No 10
Social media fans are going wild after Tobias Gough returned to Downing Street to set up the lectern for Keir Starmer’s resignation speech as Andy Burnham replaces him as PM
Brits have been sent into meltdown as the real star of Downing Street made a triumphant return. While Westminster prepares for another major political shift, social media users were far more concerned with the return of Britain’s favourite sound technician Tobias Gough.
Dubbed “Hot Podium Guy” by an army of swooning TV viewers, the hunky technician was spotted setting up the lectern outside No. 10 ahead of Sir Keir Starmer’s resignation speech, before incoming leader Andy Burnham takes over the reins.
The muscular Kent-based tech first went viral back in 2019 when he appeared in a tight black T-shirt to set up the stage for Theresa May’s exit.
Since then, he has survived five different Prime Ministers, including Boris Johnson, Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak. As soon as Tobias stepped out to test the microphones on Monday morning, X (formerly Twitter) exploded with excitement.
One thrilled fan posted: “Rejoice! Hot Podium Guy has been spotted,” while a second wrote: “Yes! First sighting of Hot Podium Guy.”
Others worried his job might be at risk if the incoming PM decided to ditch the traditional setup, with a concerned viewer asking: “No lectern for Burnham? I hope he’s not making hot podium guy redundant!”
Despite outlasting half a dozen political eras, Tobias previously admitted he was shocked by all the flirty attention.
Speaking about his overnight fame in 2019, he said: “I have to say it was great lighting to make me look that good, the sun must have been at the right angle.
“I can assure people that I don’t usually look as well as that – I won’t be going into the modelling business just yet.”
He added: “I’m 36 so I think my best days may be well behind me. But it’s been very funny reading all the comments on social media.
“My phone has been lit up all day by messages from friends and family all poking fun. Some of mates say that I should pose for a 2020 calendar, it’s given me a big laugh.”
Unfortunately for his thousands of online admirers, Tobias is strictly off the market. His wife, Tina, previously stepped in to clear up any confusion over his relationship status, publicly declaring: “He’s my husband!”
