Pop icons Shakira and Madonna took centre stage during the interval of the high-stakes clash between Spain and Argentina, with Brazilian icons Ronaldinho and Ronaldo even making a surprise cameo.
Watching the lavish spectacle unfold from ITV’s rooftop set beside the Brooklyn Bridge, the 54-year-old Manchester United icon was asked to deliver his verdict.
Known for his no-nonsense attitude, Keane had the studio roaring with laughter when he said: “It was a bit of an anti-climax, but I think the people in the stadium probably enjoyed it more than us. But it’s always nice to see Shakira.”

Presenter Mark Pougatch and fellow analysts Gary Neville and Ian Wright immediately erupted into fits of laughter at the Irishman’s unexpected confession.

Over on the BBC, former England captain Wayne Rooney didn’t hold back, offering an unapologetically blunt critique of the extravaganza. The ex-striker said: “I like a lot of them artists, but I thought it was c***”
The showbiz spectacle also featured a wild moment where Brazilian World Cup winners Ronaldo and Ronaldinho shocked fans by joining Madonna on pitch, bringing her out for a rendition of her hit track Music.
