Ex-Celtic and Scotland teen, 29, dies all of the sudden as heartbroken household pay tribute

Ryan Caird, who was once a highly rated midfielder and played for the Celtics’ under-19s and the Scotland under-16 team, tragically passed away suddenly last week

A former Celtic prospect has passed away suddenly at the age of 29. Ryan Caird, who was once a promising midfielder and featured for the Hoops’ under-19s as well as the Scotland under-16 squad, died unexpectedly last week.

The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear at present. The Cambuslang-born player transferred from his local Cathkin Secondary School to St Ninian’s High School in Kirkintilloch to train with the Parkhead club.

He was let go by Celtic at the age of 17 and subsequently joined Cambuslang Rangers, reports the Daily Record. The club spearheaded tributes to the well-liked footballer on Facebook.

A statement read: “It’s with great sadness that we share the passing of former player Ryan Caird.

“Ryan was a local Cambuslang boy and former Celtic and Cambuslang Rangers player.

“Our thoughts are with parents, family and friends at this incredibly sad time. Rest Easy Cairdy.”

Ryan’s mum, Allison Clements, said: “My beautiful boy, we are heartbroken.”

Jamie Carlin commented: “Rest easy to my big cousin. I honestly can’t believe writing this, absolutely shocked and devastating news Going miss you like mad and all your madness along way it.

Kirsty Mcfall added: “I actually can’t believe I’m writing this! Ryan Caird, RIP.

“You weren’t even 30 years old, I will never forget you and hope you are in a better place now, wee bro.”
