World Cup winner went 40 days with out intercourse pre-tournament earlier than making bonking promise
The World Cup has reached its conclusion with a tense 120-minute battle between Spain and Argentina

Ronaldo was banned from having sex for 40 days during the 2002 World Cup in order to focus on Brazil’s chances of winning. The striker then promised he would “have sex in a few moments” after defeating Germany 2-0 in the final.
Brazil relied heavily on the forward during the tournament as he won the top scorer award with eight goals. Ronaldo netted a brace in the final and likely celebrated with something better enjoyed in private.
The former Real Madrid star was asked a laughter-inducing question post-match – “What is more rewarding – winning the World Cup or having sex after going without it for 40 days?”

Ronaldo replied: “Winning the World Cup is more rewarding. I will have sex in a few moments, but the World Cup only happens every four years.”
He added: “I have to say this because my boss is listening. It is not that sex is not good, but for now the most rewarding thing is winning the World Cup.”
Manager Luiz Felipe Scolari was to blame for Ronaldo’s sex ban which was followed by the entire Brazil squad. Four years after his international success, the striker admitted that the lack of intimacy had greatly affected him.

Ronaldo explained: “The manager would tell us that any player who cannot control his penis is not a man, but an irrational animal. The World Cup in 2002 was a wonderful memory but I will always remember the ache down below just as much as lifting the trophy.”
In fact, the ex-Inter Milan forward claimed he played better if he got down to business in the bedroom before games. Speaking to a Brazilian TV station in 2011, he added: “I have had sex several times before some games.
“It helps you concentrate. Not all the coaches let you have sex before a match though. I have noticed that in some games, I played better because I had sex before them.”
Now, the striker is retired and is free to have sex whenever he wants. The iconic Brazilian was recently spotted taking part in the 2026 World Cup half-time show alongside Madonna and Ronaldinho as he took in Spain’s 1-0 win over Argentina in New Jersey.
