A man has been given a suspended prison sentence after lying about his age to groom a 13-year-old before sexually assaulting her.
Boer Ahmad pretended to be 15 when he met the young girl in September 2025. They added each other on Snapchat and exchanged messages and video calls. Southampton Crown Court heard that the girl described the conversation as a “romantic and healthy exchange” and they decided to meet one morning before school.
They held hands, hugged and took a walk in woodland, before he gave her love bites on her neck. Prosecutor Richard Sampson said the victim had been upset by this, and when they next went for a walk in the woods, she made him promise he would not do it again.

Ahmad then sexually assaulted the girl and when she asked what he was doing he told her: “It’s fine, trust me.” The victim told him she did not want to have sexual activity with him and left. She later discovered he was 18, and the matter was reported to police.
Ahmad initially claimed his phone had been stolen and he had never heard of or met the victim. He eventually pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15 and one of engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15.
Mr Sampson said this was on a basis of plea that Ahmad, from Hythe, Hampshire, believed she was consenting. While this was not accepted by the Crown, it was not disputed, he added.
In a victim impact statement read to the court, the victim said the incident had affected her greatly. She regularly suffers “emotional breakdowns”, has nightmares, and struggles at school, resulting in her attending only part-time. She said: “I will never forget what happened; it continues to have a damaging effect on my life.”
Defending, Francisca Da Costa said Ahmad “knows he has made a big mistake” and “now understands the age of consent”. She said the incident had been “short-lived” and added: “He never forced her to do anything, but accepts he said he was 15. There is an age gap, but there’s not a huge disparity of those involved.”

Ahmad grew up in Sweden, she said, and suffered physical abuse at the hands of his step-father. She added: “Life was very miserable for Ahmad as a child.” However, in 2019 he came to live in the UK with his father and had been “flourishing”, attending college and working part-time.
She urged for a suspended sentence, adding: “It is a bold submission, but a realistic one. He recognises his behaviour and certainly won’t let it happen again.”
Judge William Mousley KC said he accepted Ahmad had a “very difficult background” but added: “I conclude there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.”
He handed him a 27-month prison term, suspended for three years, and ordered he carry out 180 hours of unpaid work and up to 20 rehabilitation activity sessions. Judge Mousley also imposed a sexual harm prevention order and restraining order, both for 10 years, and ordered Ahmad pay £2,000 compensation.
