Michael Carrick will be feeling his side are in a good position following their resounding win over Rosenborg on Friday in pre-season and having already secured two new signings.

United have already bolstered their core with the signings of midfielders Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. However, the chase for Alex Scott has been abandoned, with United unwilling to meet Bournemouth’s £70m asking price.

But the Red Devils are still pushing to sign Roma and France midfielder Manu Kone in what could prove to be a bargain swoop. Here, the Daily Star Sport looks at the latest news from Old Trafford.

Roma are keen to offload Kone to United sooner rather than later to avoid a hefty UEFA fine.

Old Trafford appears to be the most likely destination for the French star this summer, but there is reportedly growing frustration in Rome over the slow progress of the transfer. Roma need to sell a player before the end of the month to comply with financial regulations and avoid a penalty of up to £12million.

As reported by Corriere dello Sport, United have yet to make a firm offer and are ‘moving slowly’ regarding the signing. It’s suggested that United are preparing a bid of £42m, while Roma are holding out for closer to £50m.

However, with time not on their side, the Serie A club may need to reduce their asking price, particularly as United have demonstrated they’re not afraid to abandon a transfer if the cost doesn’t meet their valuation.

Carrick’s attempts to add quality in depth to his frontline has seen the Reds enter a battle with Everton for Bologna and former England U21 forward Jonathan Rowe.

The 23-year-old, whose playing style has been compared to current Ballon d’Or holder Ousmane Dembele, has been making waves in Serie A since his move from Marseille last year, having begun his career at Norwich City.

Corriere di Bologna reports that Bologna are seeking around £35m for the versatile attacker, who can play on either wing, with David Moyes’ Everton also expressing strong interest.

Rowe, who holds dual British-Jamaican citizenship, has represented England at various levels. He played a crucial role in the 2025 European Under-21 Championship, coming off the bench to score the winning goal against Germany in the final.
