Met Office names 32 areas dealing with heavy rain on Wednesday as heatwave hits UK

The Met Office has named more than 30 regions which are set to be hit by torrential downpours on Wednesday despite scorching heatwave conditions hitting other parts of Britain this week.
Weather charts show rainfall is set to lash Scotland, Northern Ireland, and isolated sections of North West England. While the majority of England should escape the precipitation during a possible fourth heatwave this year, Cumberland and Lancashire are anticipated to experience downpours on Wednesday evening.
The Met Office outlook for Wednesday states: “Rather cloudy across the north, with outbreaks of rain sinking southwards into northern England during the afternoon.

“Dry and sunny across the south, where it will feel hot and humid.”
In other parts of the UK, temperatures may soar to 35C throughout South-east England, the Met Office confirmed. Chief forecaster Gregory Wolverson has stated: “This is a short-lived spell of heat, but temperatures will climb quickly through the first half of the week, particularly in the southeast,” reports the Express.

“By Wednesday, some areas could see temperatures in the mid-30°Cs, and while the heat will not be widespread across the whole of the UK, it will be enough for parts of the southeast to likely meet official heatwave criteria by Thursday.
“Elsewhere, the weather will be more changeable, and the change to cooler, more unsettled conditions will arrive sooner from the north and west, with a mix of sunshine and showers.
“Across northern areas, it is possible there will be heavier showers with a small risk of isolated thunderstorms through the week.”

In other parts of the UK the Met Office has suggested that it will be particularly balmy in the South East this week. The peak of the heat is set to occur on Wednesday, with top temperatures of 35C possible across south-eastern England. Amber heat health warnings have been issued for the East Midlands, East of England, London and South East for 24 hours from 9am on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, yellow heat health alerts have been issued for the same period in the South West, West Midlands and Yorkshire & The Humber.
But not all areas of the country will experience this surge in temperatures with cloud cover and rain predicted in northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Southern Scotland and Northern Ireland could witness heavy downpours and isolated thunderstorms later today.
